Stay connected, even at a distance
These are undoubtedly stressful times, especially if you can’t be with family and friends. Despite the challenges of self-isolation, there is some good news: we have technology to help us stay connected, even at a distance. These tools are not only great for adults to check in with one another, they are also great for kids to have play dates with friends. The best part, if you have Bluetooth enabled hearing aids, you might be able to hear your conversations straight through your devices.
If you haven’t tried some of these online options, now is the perfect time to test them out*.
Skype
Skype has been helping us connect since 2003 and it’s a great online communication tool. If you have internet access, download the Skype app and ask your family and friends to do the same. You can use it on your smart phone (android or Apple) or your computer. From Skype, you can connect with people from all over the globe when you share your screen name (just check your privacy settings so only friends and family can find you).
Facetime
Facetime is an apple equivalent to Skype and works almost the same way. The major downfall is you must be an Apple user, as do your friends and family. However, it’s very easy to use as it’s automatically associated with your Apple ID – all you have to do is ring your friend, just like you would normally call them.
Facebook Messenger
If you have a Facebook account, you can ring your Facebook friends straight from the website or the messenger app on your smart phone. You will both need a Facebook account for this option to work but it’s another easy tool where you won’t have to sign up for something or create a new account to connect.
Snapchat
Snapchat is a smartphone app that allows you to share photos of your at-home adventures and it has the option for video calls too. You will need to download the Snapchat app to your smartphone and make sure you add your friends. Again, check your privacy settings to make sure you’re protected.
*Please note, we are in no way incentivized by any company or promote their product for monetary gain. There are many options, these are just a select few.
